A bed should, first and foremost, be a place where you feel comfortable. The best mattresses provide support and have a high level of durability. If you make sure this applies to your bed and mattress, you should be able to get the right amount of good quality sleep.

A bed can also be something that adds to the interior décor of a room. You can create a DIY headboard that provides a touch of your own personality. Here are a few ideas to spark your imagination.

Create a pattern with pictures
One of the best ways to create a very personal headboard design is to use pictures which mean a lot to you. Simply place the images in frames, and attach the frames to a plain wooden headboard. If you are feeling especially creative, you can even make your own frames to use.

Make use of an old fireplace

You can pick up an old wooden fire surround from a house clearance, at very little cost. Then all you need to do is apply some fresh paint, and hang it at the back of your bed, to create a quirky DIY headboard. This also makes for a great place to place a mirror, or a lamp.

Create a cool look with pipes
A modern bedroom can benefit from the unusual addition of a headboard made from PVC pipes. You can paint the pipes with a metallic look paint, for extra impact. Joining the pipes together in the way you normally would makes for a cool industrial vibe.

Go large with a headboard

You do not have to stick with a normal sized headboard. Why not think about extending the height of the headboard, so that it reaches the ceiling? This is a whole new take on creating a feature wall. This type of headboard is certainly a stand out feature in any bedroom.

Put your old t-shirts to work
You probably have a lot of old t-shirts that you do not wear any more, but that you do not want to throw away. After all, they probably have a lot of great memories attached to them. If you choose to do this, it's a good idea to use t-shirts which follow a theme; for instance, t-shirts which are associated with music, or sports based shirts.
