Celebrity gossip and celeb house website Richcrib.com report that a beautiful Hollywood home built for screen icon Judy Garland has gone on the market for $7.1 million. 1231 Stone Canyon Road, Bel Air was built in 1938 for the child star and has also been home to other major American celebrities.
Now, the current owner Stephanie Booth Murray has put the property on the market for a little over $7 million. Keep reading to learn more about this unique house.
Iconic Bel Air estate for iconic actress
The 2.5 acre Bel Air estate was designed by famous California architect Wallace Neff and was built for a 16 year old Garland who had just landed her iconic role as Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz.
The Daily Mail says that ââ¬Ëaccording to reports Ms Garland shared the home with her sister, mother, and grandmother.ââ¬â¢
And, itââ¬â¢s not only Garland that offers prospective star appeal. The listing information notes that other celebrities including Quincy Jones and Marvin Gaye have also lived in the stunning white house.
The 5,513 square foot main house boasts 5 bedrooms, 6.5 bathrooms, a cook's kitchen, an office, a library, and spacious formal dining and living areas. The property also has a beautiful landscaped garden with an outdoor pool.
The Mail reports that ââ¬Ëthe refit cost the current owner, Stephanie Booth Murray, who bought the house last year for $5.2 million, a cool $2 million.ââ¬â¢
Star fought a lifelong battle with drugs
Garland and other young performers were constantly given amphetamines and barbiturates to cope with the pressure of making movies and this regular dose of drugs led to a lifelong struggle with addiction.
Garland was married five times and was found dead in her bathroom in London on June 22, 1969.
Her daughter, Liza Minnelli, has also become a huge screen icon appearing in Oscar nominated films such as Cabaret and Arthur.
