Many Brits choose to buy an overseas property to find a better climate or better lifestyle. And now, a new survey from the organisers of The France Show 2011 has found that increasing numbers of Brits are searching for property in France with a view to emigrating on a permanent basis.
Brits looking to buy property in France
According to the research, there has been a 60 per cent increase in the number of Brits searching for property in France over the last year, with two thirds of respondents looking to emigrate on a permanent basis.
The research was carried out amongst prospective buyers, estate agents and mortgage lenders throughout 2010. It also highlighted that 70 per cent of buyers were looking to move to France in the hope of achieving a better lifestyle, with 35 per cent saying the government\'s spending cuts had further motivated them to leave the UK.
18 per cent of those questioned believe France offers far better value for money in terms of property, and 60 per cent believe their overall cost of day-to-day living will also be reduced as a result of a move to France.
‘Dramatic increase’ in interest in property in France
Jane Smallwood, of French property agent Agence L\'Union, says: "We have seen a dramatic increase in the number of people looking to make a move to France since the beginning of June. Whilst property sales are on the up, prices in France are still far lower than at the peak of the boom in 2007. This, coupled with the stronger pound, means that yes clients are extremely well placed to secure exceptional deals."
The France Show Event Organiser, Graham Lock, agrees: "France regularly tops the polls as both the best place to live and the best place to holiday in Europe. However, it is the overall cost of living and more laid back lifestyle that seems to be the ultimate driving force in those looking to make a permanent move."
