Moving home could get stressful and energy-draining if you don’t make all the right preparations. Be sure to draw up a final checklist and tick the boxes as you go.

1. Check that your new home has insurance

If you’re buying a new house, it’s very likely your lender company will require a building insurance as a condition for the mortgage contract.

But whether you’re buying or renting, it is important that you put adequate cover in place to protect your home against loss or damage both during and after moving home.

One you’ve been furnished with all the necessary information about your new home, you should set up an insurance policy that is at least 30 days in advance and schedule it to become operational the day you move in.

2. Check that all the utilities and electrical appliances are standard

Standard and well fixed utilities such as water and gas pipes and electrical connections adds real value to a property and helps the residents or users enjoy more warmth, comfort and pleasure. 3. Redirect your post

You can set up a post redirection with your mail company for three, six or 12 months and even longer for a small fee. Alternatively, call the sender and provide them with an update of your new address or request that you be taken of their mailing list.

If you fail to redirect your post, your bills and mails may not get to you and so remain unpaid, which could damage your credit record. You could also be tracked by a debt collection company. 4. Notify others

You need to draw up a new checklist of people and important institutions that needs a notification of your new address, so they can update it on their data system or mailing list. 5. Get the moving company in early
