Thailand’s popular resort destination island of Phuket is becoming the place for the wealthy to find a tropical home, according to recent local news source thephuketinsider.com. Two members of Forbes Magazine’s billionaire’s list have their own luxury villas on Phuket, and other rich businessmen and sporting stars have places here as well.

 

The Chandler brothers of New Zealand, Richard and Christopher, with a wealth of over US$2 billion, according to Forbes, have their luxury home on the island. Canadian Robert Friedland, who is the Chairman of the Board and the founder of Ivanhoe Mines Limited and currently has his primary home in Singapore, also has a vacation retreat in Phuket..

 

Allen Zeman of Hong Kong also has a home on the island. His wealth is undisclosed, but he is considered one of Asia’s wealthiest and most influential businessmen. British Binatone founder Gulu Lalvani owns property here and is known as a globetrotting celebrity and multu-millionaire. Lalvani owns the Royal Phuket Marina.

 

Finally, Finnish Formula One driver and star Kimi Raikkonen is the fifth highest paid sports star in the world and has his own little retreat in Thailand’s premier luxury destination. According to Forbes, he rakes in some US$44 million per year.
