Thanks to its beautiful climate, areas of outstanding natural beauty, friendly atmosphere and low living costs, Portugal is quite simply one of the best destinations anywhere in the world to live. On offer here is a fantastic opportunity to invest into this consistently magnificent part of the world with this beautiful farmhouse.

Located in Saboia, which close to Odemira and Beja in the fabulous Alentejo region, this amazing property features 3 bedrooms, bathroom (with shower over bath), fully fitted kitchen, small hallway, lounge, veranda, private swimming pool, garden shed, workshop, and is set on a spacious private plot filled with a vast range of plants and trees including orange, apple, lemon, fig and peach trees plus grape vines. The property is sitting 700 metres up a private track meaning the owners can enjoy the stunning surroundings in peace and tranquillity, however the house is also perfectly located to not be too isolated from essential amenities such as shops, medical assistance, bars and restaurants in the nearby town.

This property not only offers buyers a potentially wonderful, spacious and comfortable place to live, but is also a smart investment into the ever-growing Portuguese holiday rental market. Thanks to the emergence of direct rental sites such as Airbnb and booking.com, this market is going through a golden age right now and Portugal is consistently one of the most popular locations in this context. Saboia is not only a fabulous place in its own right but is also a great base from which to explore other interesting places such as nearby Albufeira, Quarteira and the legendary Algarve region. For those wishing to venture a little further, the stunning capital, Lisbon is just under 2.5 hours away.

Sports fans will not be disappointed as the area is close to many excellent water sports, fishing, walking and cycling areas. There are also many fantastic golf courses dotted along the nearby coastal areas. The area is also just over 1 hour away from the Autodromo internacional do Algarve in Portimao, which of course now hosts the Portuguese F1 Grand Prix every year.

The area is also very well-connected transport wise both locally and internationally with regional airports, the nearest international airport is Faro and is roughly 2 hours away.

ABOUT THE AREA

You'll be bewitched with Alentejo - Portugal's largest region, covering a third of the country. Think dry, golden plains, rolling hillsides and lime-green vines. A rugged coastline, traditional whitewashed villages, marble towns and majestic medieval cities. Plus, a proud if melancholic people, who valiantly cling to their local crafts.

Centuries-old farming traditions - and cork production - continue here. Alentejo's rich past offers Palaeolithic carvings, fragments from Roman conquerors and solid Visigothic churches. There are Moorish-designed neighbourhoods and awe-inspiring fortresses built at stork-nest heights.

And the cuisine? Alentejo is the destination for traditional food. Gastronomic delights are plentiful - pork, game, bread, cheese, wine, and seafood along the coastline. Birdlife and rare plants are prolific, and walking opportunities abound.

The world is (finally) catching on to Alentejo. Get there before everyone else does.

Saboia is a municipality in the Alentejo in the district of Odemira in Portugal with an area of 155.4 km2 and 1152 inhabitants (as of June 30, 2011); it has a population density of 7.4 inhabitants per km2.

The municipality of Saboia is located 25 kilometres from the town of Odemira. in the south the municipality borders on the mountains of Monchique , which already belong to the Algarve ; the area is mountainous throughout and is traversed by the river Mira. in the north, the municipality borders on Luzianes-Gare and Santa Maria, which also belong to the district of Odemira . in the west the municipality borders on Boavista dos Pinheiros, Sao Teotonio and in the east on the municipalities of Santa Clara-a-Velha and Pereiras Gare. The largest reservoir in the area is located in Santa Clara-a-Velha. Together with Santa Clara-a-Velha, Saboia has its own train station on the route from Lisbon to Faro.

Forestry is still the most important source of income for the local economy today. in earlier times, the wood products were transported on ships over the Rio Mira to the Atlantic coast.
