PROPERTY DETAiLS

One constant that can be relied upon in these evolving times is the stunning natural beauty of Portugal's North Atlantic coastal areas. This property, in the picturesque town of Caldas da Rainha, offers up an exciting new opportunity to invest in this beath-taking part of the world.

Located just 5 minutes from the city centre but also just 20 minutes from many stunning beaches, this amazing property features 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, stunning modern kitchen, storage area and salon.

This house not only offers a comfortable, spacious, and modern place to live but also the chance to venture into the lucrative and ever-growing holiday rental market, in which this region is unsurprisingly one of the fastest growing in Portugal. Caldas da Rainha is not only a wonderful area in itself but is also a great base from which to discover the endless other fascinating places of Portugal such as Nazare (30km away), which hosts the world surf league and the stunning capital, Lisbon (just over an hour away). The area is also just 5km away from the fascinating medieval town of Obidos, now a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Sport and leisure fans will not be disappointed either as the area is full of exciting and interesting walking, water sports and biking areas and there are also many excellent golf nearby such as Royal Obidos Spa & Golf Resort (just 11km away) and Guardian Bom Sucesso Golf (just 10km away).

Soccer fans will also be intrigued by the short journey into Lisbon, proving the opportunity to visit Estadio da Luz, home of Portuguese football giants Benfica. Estadio Jose Alvalade, home of the equally iconic Sporting Lisbon is also just over an hour away from the area.

The area is very well-connected transport wise both locally, with many bus/train services, and internationally with Lisbon Portela Airport less than one hour away. This is of course yet another plus point in the context of the holiday rental market.

ABOUT THE AREA

One step in from the coast, Caldas da Rainha is a spa town founded by a queen. in the 15th century Eleanor of Viseu discovered locals bathing in the strange-smelling springs, and so began Europe's first hydrotherapy resort since Roman times. People descended on the town from far and wide in the 1800s, when it was furnished with a tasteful park and spa complex, now restored as a museum.

As a place where nobility and the bourgeoisie gathered, Caldas da Rainha has lots of distinguished architecture from the Baroque to Art Nouveau. And you will never lack for things to do, with the medieval village of Obidos next door and two of Portugal's best beaches moments away.

There is a taste of Belle Époque spa life at Parque Dom Carlos i, named after King Carlos i, who ruled Portugal at the turn of the century. in the late-1700s the vineyards and olive groves that used to be here were cleared to offer a space for guests at the thermal hospital to take walks. This evolved into a Romantic garden with statues, a boating lake, lawns, a sweet bandstand, a picnic area, bar with terrace and paths twisting through woodland. The old hospital pavilions complete the scene and are reflected in the lake's waters.

One of the many advantages of staying in Caldas da Rainha is that you're a stone's throw from one of Portugal's most beautiful villages. Obidos is also up there with the country's most popular day-trip destinations, so you'll appreciate being able to get in and out early in the day. Either way, the hilltop enclosure is somewhere you've got to explore. There is a lattice of quaint cobblestone streets, lined by whitewashed houses with artisan shops for souvenirs. The Porta da Senhora da Graca is the main entrance to the walled town, and is festooned with beautiful azulejo panels in the 18th century.

On the coast is a wonderful beach that almost defies description: it's a sandbank where the Obidos Lagoon enters the ocean. So on one side you have the roaring Atlantic waves, but you need only walk a few metres across to the inward-facing beach lapped by the warm and transparent waters of the lagoon. Provided you look out for the changing tides, children can swim and play here in safety, which is quite rare on the Atlantic shoreline. There's also an esplanade beside the beach with ice cream stands and restaurants, all with vistas to savour of the lagoon and the cliffs in the distance.

Call it hyperbole, but you cannot find a better location for water-based fun in Europe. The steady winds blowing off the Atlantic are the stuff of dreams for windsurfers and kite-surfers. But when you combine them with the crystalline waters of the Obidos lagoon, or the sheltered ocean in the Sao Martinho bay, you've got something very special. if you're a novice there's a catalogue of companies that will give you the tuition to get going. We haven't even mentioned Peniche, 25 minutes down the coast, and christened Capital of the Wave.

it is easily one of the best surf spots in Europe.
