When you’re looking to sell a home, there are so many things to sort out that it can all get overwhelming pretty fast. Here are ten tips that you can try in order to make the process a little easier on yourself.

1. Be sure to depersonalize the home if you live there. We all know that people want to envision themselves in the home that they ultimately go to purchase. So, while you want to stage it, be sure that you depersonalize it so that anyone who walks in can imagine that they are living there in the future.

2. Work with an agent to keep things in order. If you are trying to make sure that you can find success in regards to your real estate deal, then you want to talk to professionals like the Langham - Dilmore real estate team in order to make sense of everything. They can help you with the difficult parts of getting your home ready for sale, too.

3. Make everything shine! You want the counters, floors, walls, sinks, and everything in between to have that nice shine that you can only get when you put a little elbow grease into it.

4. Get rid of any odors. You don’t want to try and sell a home that smells bad. So, clean the litter box (better yet, give kitty a vacation at a cat spa), put some baking soda in the fridge and make sure that everything smells as best as it can smell.

5. Deal with outdoor areas. The outdoor areas of your home are a big selling point. If you’ve fallen behind on landscaping, you are going to get fewer opportunities to sell because, frankly, no one wants to try and deal with a house that isn’t attractive in any way.

6. Organize closets, the garage, and any other “hidden areas.” You never notice those hidden areas, but people who want to buy your home will be looking in every nook and cranny that is in there so that they can have the best idea as to how your home is going to benefit them. So, make sure that those areas that you don’t go to very often are clean, neat, and organized.

7. Deal with any minor repairs that need to be taken care of. Any cracks, leaks, or other problems should be dealt with before people come to view your home.

8. Consider painting the walls. Yes, you may be used to the blue and yellow walls that are in your home, but that doesn’t mean that other people will like them. Take some time to paint the walls neutral colors instead.

9. Complete unfinished projects.  If you’re in the middle of a remodeling project, be sure that you have everything completed before you go and try to sell your home.

10. Get ready to leave. Part of preparing your home for sale is making sure that you are ready for it to be sold. Get yourself ready emotionally and it will be that much easier to get your home on the market and sold ASAP.
