Costa Calma this picturesque seaside resort situated in the South of the Island. It
is perched between the protected sand dune National Park and the turquoise
waters of the Atlantic Ocean. Approximately 40 minutes from the airport to the
North, and 20 minutes to Morro Jable in the South, the town is divided into the
coastal side of the town known as Canada Rio, which looks out across Sotavento
beach. Sotavento beach is famous for its golden sands and windsurfing center
Rene Egli, which hosts the World Wind and Kite Sailing Championships. You will
find many many surf and diving schools for those more adventurous, or
alternatively the ever popular camel excursions. The inland side known as
Canada Sol looks out across the Jandia Peninsular with its open sand dunes
stretching to the Wild West coast only a five minute drive away. The resort houses numerous hotels, ranging from hostels to five star hotels and touristic apart-hotels with 7 main commercial centers offering a variety of restaurants, bars, shops and entertainments.

You can arrange trips to explore the island plus there are car rental services, motorbike excursions, quad hire, medi-clinics, clothes and souvenir outlets. Nearby is the Oasis Park Zoo and
plant center with resident Giraffes, Hippopotamus, crocodiles and the largest cactus garden in Fuerteventura. There is a regular bus service that runs North to South of Fuerteventura enabling access to the whole of the island easily. Just north of Costa Calma is the town of Gran Tarajal, Once a small fishing village, Gran Tarajal is a fine example of an authentic Canarian town. You will find that it is a very relaxing place, and it is a joy to wind down watching the local fishermen at work and to stroll along the beach promenade. Within the town, there is a police station, post office, shops, supermarkets, schools, banks and much, more. There are also many concerts, competitions and fairs etc held here. Located just north of the town about 10 minutes' drive is the Golf and Sports resort of Las Playitas, that has a stunning 18 hole golf course and is used as a training ground for many international sportsmen. One of the highlights of Gran Tarajal,
is the beautiful and stunning fountain with six sea horses spouting water which
is opposite the Church and just beside the taxi stand. Of course, apart from
the glorious beach which is in the center of the town, there is the fabulous
marina of Gran Tarajal which is known internationally for its annual hosting of
the deep sea fishing competition every September.
