The Property

This listed property is over 500 years old and was once the palace's barns, stables and living quarters for field hands and livestock alike. There are just over 250m² of floor area, with the living accommodation split between three floors. The ground floor is composed by the old barn and stable area, and an adjacent partition with an independent entrance, with the added benefit of sharing the patio with an exquisite 5 star Hotel. The first floor comprises the old living quarters for field workers, whilst the attic has never been given a household use.

The South facing facade is enclosed by the Palace’s cobbled patio, the East facing side looks onto the garden and the West to the Chapel Senhor dos Navegantes. The property boasts breathtaking original features such as, wall-corners reinforced with granite, original stable stall doors, horse hitching rings, antique stone details, high ceilings and over 25” thick outer walls. The latter provides warmth during cold months and coolness during the warmer ones.

This charming ensemble is in need of complete restoration and does offer infinite potential for those with the will to invest. Not every home is a 500-year- old piece of history and not every historic building is a barn. The owner is undergoing the process to obtain an approved study at City Hall to fully renovate the property. Such study was put together in order to develop a sustainable plan to bring the original Stable block back to life, whilst still retaining the heritage and unique features of the building.

The Village

Dating as far back as the late XV century, Paço de Arcos Palace was once where King Manuel I serenely spent his time. Popular folklore dictates it was from here he witnessed the ships sailing off to India, from the very elegant loggia to the front of the palace. The paramount importance of the Palace and its distinctive ‘arches’ gave the village its name - Paço de Arcos.

This quaint fishing village, poised between the river Tagus and the Atlantic Ocean, is conveniently situated on the outskirts of our capital city, just over 5 miles away from inner Lisbon. The natural cove presented at Paço de Arcos offered sanctuary for fishermen escaping sea storms. The aforementioned village’s chapel, Senhor Jesus dos Navegantes, originally built in 1698, pays homage to the patron saint of the ‘people of the sea’.

The Village’s History, great scenic beauty, temperate climate and proximity to the sea, are only matched by the quality of its natural light. Its light, and the way it reflects off the ocean, is a sight to behold. Its cobbled narrow streets, are then complemented by modern amenities and conveniences, including an array of fine restaurants, beaches, public gardens, a traditional market, supermarket, coffee shops, a promenade by the sea, etc. This spectacular setting is the backdrop for the Palace’s 5 star hotel, which includes a museum and a landscaped public garden, providing direct access to a secluded area with direct views to the sea.
