Property Details

With its glorious natural scenery, warm climate, welcoming culture and low cost of living, Morocco is quickly gaining a reputation as one of the most desirable places across the world to live or visit. On offer here is a chance to make a smart financial investment into this magnificent part of the world.

For a taste of the 'real' Morocco, this is as good as it gets. Villa Tazmin is a spacious 'Beldi' house situated on the Atlantic coast, in the friendly countryside village of Ghazoua, only 1km from KM8. Within 20 minutes drive is amazing Essaouira Town, Medina and beach; Diabat with 2 international golf courses and Diabat Ranch; Sidi Kaouki offering 5 miles of golden sand, and probably the best windsurfing in Morroco; Essaouira Airport surreptitiously tucked away, compact & exceptional service; Marrakech Menara airport is only a 2.5-hour drive away.

Villa Tazmin is a hidden gem in a peaceful tranquil environment, with wonderful Berber neighbors. The large metal blue front door in the fortress-style wall opens into a large sunny salon, with a glass atrium, and a central bay tree. Traditionally furnished, using local artisans, with a big dining table, and 6 chairs. A cozy lounge is through the arch, with a wood-burning fire for the winter nights. Surrounding the salon is a European toilet with a hand basin next to a spacious wet room with shower, seating, handbasin and toilet, both have colored stained glass windows, and wooden shutters opening out to the salon.

There is a double bedroom with wall length fitted wardrobe and a lovely twin bedroom with a dressing/store room, both doors open in to the salon. The galley kitchen is reached from the salon corner, fully equipped, with full-size gas oven and hob cooker, plus an array of utensils, crockery, cups and glasses, and Tajines both for cooking or display. The kitchen door opens into a big integral garage, with double blue metal doors. Used as clothes drying area, complete with a new washing machine, electric water heater, water pump, and commercial hose. Gas bottle to supply the cooker. The lounge, twin bedroom, and kitchen could easily and cheaply, be extended into this useful space.

A flight of red steps lead from the garage to a wonderful, spacious, secluded and wind-friendly rooftop terrace. With outside lighting, dining table and chairs, a pergola, potted plants, and barbeque. Ideal for dining al fresco during the day, or under the stars. The summer house offers cool shade in the height of the season, with many options for storage, games or playroom and easily converted in to an ensuite double bedroom.

The village is a safe, happy place, animal lovers' and photographers paradise.

Our own well provides water. Gas, electricity, country council tax, building and contents insurance are all relatively cheap.

Within walking distance from Villa Tazmin are three local shops, at KM8 there are shops galore with fresh meat, chickens, vegetables, artisan boutiques, takeaways and restaurants. Catch regular cheap buses and taxis into Essaouira or Sidi Kaouki, and Supratours from Essaouira to Marrakech and Agadir.

Just up the hill, in the shadows of the mosque are an abundance of local shops, barbers, bakers, cafes, restaurants, and the Hamman. There is a new supermarket, ATM, car hire and petrol garage.

If required my existing contacts might be useful for maintenance, caretaking and cleaning. A new Title is in transition.

Villa Tazmin is a much-loved house, and holiday rental since 2007, but its my time to move on, and hopefully make way for a new owner who will embrace the house, neighbors, children animals, country life, and tranquility in magical Morocco.

ABOUT THE AREA

Essaouira is a port city and resort on Morocco's Atlantic coast. Its medina (old town) is protected by 18th-century seafront ramparts called the Skala de la Kasbah, which were designed by European engineers. Old brass cannons line the walls, and there are ocean views. Strong 'Alizee' trade winds make the city's crescent beach popular for surfing, windsurfing and kitesurfing.

It is the coastal wind - the beautifully named alizee, or taros in Berber - that has allowed Essaouira (essa-weera, or es-sweera in Arabic) to retain its traditional culture and character. For most of the year, the wind blows so hard here that relaxing on the beach is impossible, meaning that the town is bypassed by the hordes of beach tourists who descend on other Atlantic Coast destinations in summer. Known as the 'Wind City of Africa', it attracts plenty of windsurfers between April and November, but the majority of visitors come here in spring and autumn to wander through the spice-scented lanes and palm-lined avenues of the fortified medina, browse the many art galleries and boutiques, relax in some of the country's best hotels and watch fishing nets being mended and traditional boats being constructed in the hugely atmospheric port.

Essaouira lies on the crossroads between two tribes: the Arab Chiadma to the north and the Haha Berbers in the south. Add to that the Gnawa, who came originally from further south in Africa, and the Europeans, and you get a rich cultural mix.

The weather in Essaouira is never as hot as Marrakech.

Located on the Atlantic coast, there are warm sea breezes during the day. It can be more windy between April and October.

It can get cooler at night, for this reason we recommend bringing a warmer layer with you.
