There is general store close to Casa Girasole that sells groceries and household products. A tobacconist on the same street also sells household items and gas bottle refills (used for cooking). Several restaurants and bars offer a variety of local food and pizza.

The village itself is 4 km by road from the sea and beautiful sandy beaches, situated in the coastal town of Badolato Marina. Parking close to the beach and several bars restaurant along the seafront. Also located a short walk from the beach are; banks, post office, supermarkets, chemists, salons, DiY, petrol/diesel and a variety of tourist shops and restaurants. Every Monday morning a small open market sets up outside the Commune building in the center of town.

Public transport is not very regular so a car is recommended to explore the locale and other coastal towns.

Several historical towns and sites are within a two-hour drive, either westwards or towards the east along the coastal road.

The stretch of coastline extending northwards of Badolato is known as The Orange Coast or Costa degli Aranci. There are extensive details and photos here http://www.turiscalabria.it/.

Towards the south there are further places of interest and a national park, these include archaeological sites and artifacts from the Bronze Age.

There is a big open market every Friday morning at Soverato, 25km along the coast, a dedicated bus from the village that leaves at 7.00 am, with a couple of options to return, last bus 12.40.

Badolato is steeped in history dating back to the 11th Century. A French Templar ordered the construction of a fort on the site of Badolato, to watch for Arab incursions by sea. Such hill top towns are ubiquitous in italy and are known as borghi. Two centuries after the founding of Badolota a series of Counts and Barons occupied the fortified village as various feuds continued until 1806. Today the charm of a medieval village can be felt as One meanders the many winding streets and alleys. A spectacular 3 day celebration of Easter is renowned throughout the region

About the Area

Badolato is a comune and town in the province of Catanzaro in the Calabria region of italy. As of 2013 Badolato had an estimated population of 3,152.

Catanzaro, also known as the "City of the two Seas", is an italian city of 91,000 inhabitants, the capital of the Calabria region and of its province and the second most populated comune of the region, behind Reggio Calabria. The archbishop's seat was the capital of the province of Calabria Ultra for over 200 years.

The Province is famous for both maritime - especially on the ionian Coast - and mountainous - e.g. the area of the Sila - tourism. The slopes of Sila host the villages of Cortale, Taverna, Tiriolo.

The major monuments in Catanzaro are the Cathedral and, housed in it, the Madonna with Child, a statue by Antonello Gagini da Messina dating back to the 16th Century. The square, crenellated Norman Tower is what remains of the Norman castle. Villa Trieste is surrounded by wonderful gardens that contain rare plants and marble busts of some of the region's famous personalities. The Belvedere, indeed, is a perfect place to admire the Fiumarella Valley and the Gulf of Squillace. The Museo Provinciale, in the Villa Comunale, hosts prehistoric finds and ancient coin collections.

The Province of Catanzaro, specialized in maritime tourism, is a great destination for lovers of aquatic sport: diving, wind surf, and water-skiing. Besides this, on the coast it is possible to go jogging, to take bicycle excursions and to photograph the wonderful landscapes.

in the Gulf of Squillace many discos and clubs animate the summer nights. This is the territory where the first adventure park of Calabria has been established, in Zagarise, the heart of the National Park of Sila Piccola. The activities here are numerous and suitable for the whole family: trekking, mountain-biking, orienteering, and climbing.
