Property Details

'Location, location, location.' This phrase was a favourite of the real-estate visionary Harold Samuel, and for good reason. As a property of unparalleled distinction, Creevagh Heights proffers these 'three attributes' in abundance.

On offer is the opportunity to own a property which is not only an extremely private and tranquil haven, but is also situated in the stunning panorama of the North Mayo coastline.

While already tastefully decorated in a neutral and flexible style, Creevagh Heights is a canvas upon which any interior designer could fully express themselves. Whatever stamp you choose to put upon the property, this is a rare opportunity to secure a site which remains stunning, significant, and timeless.

The township of Lacken is nestled upon the rugged North Mayo coastline on the west coast of ireland. Situated between the towns of Killala and Ballycastle along the Wild Atlantic Way, this homestead overlooks the Atlantic Ocean and offers breath-taking views of counties Mayo, Sligo, and Donegal - the rugged and majestic North West region of ireland.

THE PROPERTY

Creevagh Heights is a very private and secluded detached dormer bungalow. Re-built in 1966 and extensively renovated (new windows, roof, insulation), this house was expanded onto its present generous footprint in 2003.

The property is set in a rural area. Phenomenal views greet you from every room; choose from Killala Bay and Lacken Strand, Slieve League in Donegal, or the cliffs and valleys of counties Mayo, Sligo, and Leitrim.

The property has electric gates, a 24-hour monitored security system; WiFi; a natural well and also city water; ceramic and oak flooring; and oil central heating. Accompanied by two original stone outbuildings and a spacious patio, the accommodation includes:

 Six bedrooms (four with private bathrooms, and two of which could be used as playroom or office space)

 Large family bathroom with jacuzzi bath.

 Dining room

 Two living rooms, each with open fire/stoves

 Kitchen with custom-made maple units, granite worktops, and an island.

 Laundry/utility room

 Two walk-in storage cupboards

 Large attic and crawl space

The property is in excellent cosmetic and mechanical condition throughout. Functioning as an award-winning bed & breakfast for the past five years, it achieved a ranking as the number 1 B&B in ireland on Trip Advisor for two years and was in the top 1% of properties on Booking.com, achieving a rating of 9.9 for all five years of operation.

THE AREA / LOCATiON

LACKEN

Creevagh Heights is walking distance from Lacken Strand, one of the best-kept secrets in the country. With miles of beautiful, expansive shoreline and some of the best beaches to be found anywhere, its scenic beauty is simply unrivalled. Because of its placement away from 'the beaten track', it is completely unspoilt. it's here where you go to breathe, to revel in the open space, and to blow away the mental cobwebs. Lacken has been a fishing village for many years, and there are few experiences more enjoyable than meeting the boats coming in to Lacken Pier in the evening. Their catch includes fresh lobster, crab, turbot, mackerel, to name a few, and all for sale only metres from the pier.

Away from the shoreline, the area is rich in history and heritage to explore. The Lacken Trails offer walkers and hikers the opportunity to explore the area on a variety of trails while learning the history of Lacken and availing of remarkable views.

Just around the corner from Lacken Strand, you'll find a true hidden treasure in Kilcummin Back Strand. Our own secret beach, this is a sea fisher's and a surfer's paradise. Here's a sneak preview of the treasure that awaits once you reach the crest of the hill on your way from Kilcummin Pier.

Kilcummin Pier has its own special history, of course. As the location where General Humbert came ashore on his trip from La Rochelle during the French landing of 1798, a re-enactment ceremony is held every year to commemorate this momentous event in the history of North Mayo

COUNTY MAYO

The property is 30 minutes drive from Ballina (world-famous for fly fishing on the Moy River and as the Salmon Capital of ireland) and ten minutes drive from Downpatrick Head, one of the signature points on the Wild Atlantic Way which featured in the 2021 Red Bull Cliff Diving Championship.

Two world-class golf links courses are within easy reach of the area; Enniscrone is a 45 min. drive, door-to-door, and Carne Belmullet can be reached within an hour. Additionally, there is a parkland course in Ballina.

The area is a haven for those interested in history and geology. Just 15 minutes drive north is the Ceide Fields Neolithic site, one of the earliest inhabited farming areas in the world.

There are several court-tombs, abbeys, castles and monasteries to be explored in the area.

Lacken is ideally situated for day trips to explore the gem that is North Mayo or even the rest of the country.

POTENTiAL

Whether you are looking for a main residence, a holiday location, a bed and breakfast business opportunity, or an investment to let out on short or long-term periods, the only limitation is your imagination. (The property can command €2,000 per week as a holiday let during the summer holiday season.)
