Property Details

With its glorious natural scenery, excellent climate, welcoming culture and excellent standards of living, Greece is quickly gaining a reputation as one of the most desirable places across the world to live or visit. On offer here is a chance to make a smart financial investment in this magnificent part of the world.

The detached property is on the island of Zakynthos or Zante near to the resorts of Alykes and Alykanas. It is a 20 minute car journey to the airport. The house is situated above the village of Katastari which is about 8 minutes drive to Alykes beach. There is a tarmac road all the way to the house. There are lovely views across the sea at the front (you can see Kephalonia to the left and Tsilivi to the right)and views of the mountains behind. The area is very peaceful and quiet but not lonely.

There are large tiled outdoor areas for sitting and entertaining. A garage is underneath the property where the central heating oil tank is situated. Plenty of parking on the small hill to the right of the house or directly to side. Balcony doors all round except kitchen and main bathroom. There is a small garden at the front of the property and a larger one behind and below the level of the house. The house is all air conditioned and has Wi-Fi and a cable dish. The kitchen/diner is large with a lounge off this area with sliding doors to close off. There are two large bedrooms, a fully fitted bathroom and another washroom/laundry area.

The house is currently single floor but has planning permission to build upstairs. If you go on the roof, the views are 360 degrees and are amazing!
In the village of Katastari there is a bakery, small supermarket, post office, kiosk, primary school and beautiful church.
The house is very well built and is earthquake proof as steel rods have been sunk into the solid rock underneath the foundations (this was very expensive).

The Venetians called Zante Fiore di Levante, the Flower of the East, and its nobility and fertility made it the jewel of their empire. Today’s visitors to the southernmost Ionian Island (known as Zakynthos in Greek) would agree, though they come mostly for its iconic beaches – Lagana, Tsilivi, Argassi, Kalamaki, Alykes – where British, French and Italians know how to have a good time.

Looking for lifelong memories? You’ll find them when you swim at the famous Shipwreck Beach, watch the sunset from the cliffs of Keri and Kryoneri, listen to the islanders sing their cantatas and see the endangered caretta caretta sea turtles lay their eggs in the island’s white sands. Welcome to your holidays in Zante, the Ionian island that has it all.

Zakynthos is a Greek island in the Ionian Sea and a well-known summer resort. The harbor city of Zakynthos is the capital and major hub, centered around waterfront Solomos Square. Popular beaches like Agios Nikolaos, Alykanas and Tsilivi offer swimming and water sports. Accessed by boat, Navagio beach is the site of a famed 1980 shipwreck resting in a sandy cove framed by cliffs.

Zante is an island located off the west coast of mainland Greece, and it takes around three and a half hours to fly there from the UK. The Venetians once dubbed Zante – or Zakynthos as it’s also known – ‘The Flower of the Orient’, thanks to its top-class countryside. And it’s a nickname that still rings true today. Olive groves, lemon trees and bougainvillea cover the whole island, peeking out from between rolling hills.

Zante’s coastline is just as impressive as its interior. Sandy shores give way to turquoise sea caves, and hidden coves and rugged cliffs offer up grandstand views of the Ionian sunsets. Smuggler’s Cove leads the way as far as beaches are concerned. Overlooked by soaring cliffs, this sandy bay is one of the most beautiful in Greece.

It’s loggerhead turtles that really put Zante on the map, though – the island is the most important nesting spot in the Mediterranean for them. If you’re here between July and August, head to Laganas Beach, where you’ve got the best chance of spotting the creatures.

Another part of Zante’s appeal is the fact it caters for all sorts of holidays. Laganas is the place to go for the big clubs, while Tsilivi’s streets are brimming with bars and pubs. Head for the likes of Alykanas and Kalamaki, meanwhile, and you’ll find soft sands and a more go-slow pace.
