World Airline Awards Winner

The World Airline Awards for 2008 have just been announced by Skytrax, the London-based research firm that annually announces the awards after extensive polling of the market. The 2008 Airline of the Year is Singapore Airlines, which won the award in 2007 and is becoming known across the globe for its outstanding service. Singapore Airlines also won for the Best Airline: Asia and Best Airline: Southeast Asia categories, among several other awards for the airline. This is the third time in the past ten years that the airline has been named top airline in this survey. It has also collected a number of other major awards from travel magazines and industry groups, including Best Airline for 2007 from Business Traveler magazine.
For 2008 Airline of the Year, Cathay Pacific came in second place with Qantas in third, whilst last year’s runner up, Thai Airways, was fourth. Among the other award winners is UK-based easyJet, which won for Best Low Cost Airline for 2008. In some of the other the regional categories, the winners include Lufthansa, which was awarded Best Airline: Europe; South African Airways won for Africa; Qantas was number one in Australasia; Continental came in first for North America; South America’s best airline is LAN; British Airways is the best Transatlantic airline and Air New Zealand is the best Transpacific airline.
