Spain’s second largest airline launches Majorca routes

Vueling, Spain’s second largest
airline, has announced that it will launch the Palma Majorca to Heathrow route
next March. The Daily Telegraph
reports that the last airline to offer this route was UK-based budget carrier
BMI back in 2009.

The newspaper reports that this
new air route ‘should also give a boost to the local property market.’
According to Spanish figures, there are around 24,000 Brits living on Majorca
and foreigners make up just over a fifth of all residents.

As well as the Majorca route,
Vueling is also launching a number of other services which will benefit anyone
with a property in Spain. It plans to launch low-cost flights between Cardiff
and Malaga and Gatwick and Barcelona from 2013.

Alex Cruz, the chief executive of
Vueling, said: “The Heathrow route is going to be hugely welcomed by the strong
expat community and together with the introduction of Gatwick-Barcelona
flights, also commencing at the end of March, our expanded services from the UK
capital form a key part of what will be a fourth consecutive year of growth.”

Along with the direct connection
from Heathrow the airline will also offer 14 other direct routes from the
island next summer, including flights to Barcelona.

This announcement is great news
for anyone with a home on Majorca and, for any Brits considering buying an overseas
property, this will make travelling to and from their holiday home much
