Four areas of Singapore have been earmarked for major housing development projects.

According to, more than 80,000 homes will be built on sites in Tengah, Bidadari and Tampines North over the next 25 years. Punggol has also been cited as another spot for development.

National development minister Khaw Boon Wan revealed details about the projects at a recent Housing Development Board (HDB) exhibition.

According to, he promised that each project would capitalise on the distinctive character of the area that surrounded it, in order to provide a unique living experience.

He added: “The planners of HDB have carefully built on each estate’s history, distinctive local flavour and features. As we rapidly expand our building programme to create new precincts in new towns, my instruction to HDB is to seize every opportunity of building new precincts, to build on our strong foundation, so as to advance our social mission. Every new town must be better than the previous one.”

Those with an interest in international real estate will be able to bid on new properties in Punggol as early as this month.

More than 8,000 flats will be built in this waterside region. The biggest development will be in Tengah, where around 50,000 homes are expected to be built.
