After all the award-winning Alvaro Siza house designs produced over the past five decades, the architect has received an honorary degree this week.

The Doctorate, which was handed out at the University of Seville, is the latest in a long line of accolades for Silva, whose real estate designs have garnered much acclaim over the years.

Silva began producing works in 1954 and continues to do so. His most famous career moment came in 1992, when he won the Prizker Prize, widely regarded as the Nobel Prize of architecture.

Silva is the third architect to be given the prestigious honorary degree, reports El Mundo, following Felix Candela in 1990 and Santiago Calatrava in 1994. Speaking at the ceremony, which coincided with the School of Architecture’s golden jubilee, Joaquin Luque hailed Silva’s work as “full of poetic knowledge, lyrical inventiveness and sublime design”.

Also in attendance were the President of the Junta de Andalucia, José Antonio Griñán, and other officials.
