The Next Mexican Property Hotspot at La Paz

North of Los Cabos on the Baja Peninsula of Western Mexico is an increasingly popular destination for second home buyers and retirees. La Paz is the capital of Baja Sur, the southern of the two states that make up the peninsula. It is not nearly as well known as the towns at the very south of the peninsula, but it is a wonderful mix of old and new.

 

Currently home to about 200,000 residents, La Paz is the largest city on the Baja Peninsula and overlooks the Sea of Cortes. Many people move there to enjoy the weather and water, and the city has a nice waterfront promenade with retail shops, restaurants, bars and hotels. The big draw here is the fact that home prices are much less than in Los Cabos, which is about 130 miles to the south.

 

North of La Paz is the development of Loreto, which the Mexican government has identified as a potential tourist destination. It is investing heavily in the area, but La Paz already has what many people are looking for: nice homes at good prices and plenty of activities. The area is very popular for fisherman and it even hosts international fishing tournaments. It is also a renowned destination for scuba diving, and the beaches are beautiful.

 

La Paz has its own small, international airport, Manuel Marquez International Airport (LAP), which has direct flights to Los Angeles and several Mexican cities. You can also fly into San Jose Del Cabo International Airport (SJD) and drive the two and half hours north to La Paz.
