When you’re moving out of a rented property, chances are that you’re going to have clean the house to get it ready for the new tenants. You also need to make sure you get as much of your deposit back as possible and the best way to do that is to give the house back to the landlord in as best condition as possible.

There are two ways you can do the end of tenancy cleaning. Firstly, you can go to a professional end of tenancy cleaning service who will get your old rented property looking brand new again. Not only is this a cheap and effective way of getting the cleaning done, it gives you more free time to get all your moving boxes organised and ready! The other option is to do the end of tenancy cleaning yourself. If you decide to go down this route, I thought some helpful tips might come in use so here’s my advice to all of you who fancy a bit of hard work and elbow grease!

 Walls

First of all, you’ll need to remove any nails or screw that you’ve put into the walls and cover up the holes with some wall filer. Repaint over the holes so it looks the same as before. Next you need to scrub the skirting boards and walls hard to remove any dirt that may have accumulated. Be careful not to scrub to hard though, you don’t want to remove the paint! Don’t forget to clean behind the radiators as well.

 Bathroom

Most rented bathroom as usually white or in some sort of light colour. This means that they show off dirt and dust really easily so it is important to remove as much as possible. Start by cleaning the sink, bath and toilet. Make this the first job you do. After that job is completed, move onto the mirrors and the surfaces. Remove any shampoos and old unwanted shower gel from the room and get rid of any old toothpaste stains that might be left around the basin. Finally, wash and hoover the floor to make it look sparkling again. Here is some more bathroom cleaning advice as this room must sparkle.

  Kitchen

The kitchen is the hub of any home so make sure this area is spotless. Pay special attention to the fridge, freezer and oven as old food and dirt can easily be accumulated over time. Clean out the toaster and microwave also. Make sure all the surfaces are spotless and clear out all the cupboards and drawers and clean them to make them look brand new again. Finally, make sure the floor looks amazing as old food, dirt and dust can usually be found in the corners of the kitchen.

 Carpets

It’s natural that after living in a property for a while, the carpets might look slightly worn and used. You can make them look new again by giving them a good clean though. If you have a steam cleaner, now is the best time to use it. If you don’t have one, not to worry, you can still get the carpets really clean by purchasing carpet cleaning products and scrubbing like their no tomorrow!
