In most homes around the world, the kitchen is the heart of the home. This is where great meals are planned, prepared and served and there is nothing more important to health and enjoyment than food! If you are concerned that some of the appliances and plumbing in your kitchen aren’t in good working order, it’s time to look at a few ways to run through a simple checklist.

What to Look For

The first clue you’ll have when something isn’t working as it should would be mess where it doesn’t belong. For example, does your sink often have residue left after draining water? It should drain quickly enough not to leave any residue around the walls of the sink and if you repeatedly need to pour drain cleaner down the plug hole, you know you have a problem. If this is the case, make sure you know of a trusted tradesman's service, such as 247 Drainage you can call. You should do a visual before going about a systematic check of everything that ‘should’ work.

Check Your Dishes as They Are Taken Out of the Dishwasher

Since there are so many dangers resulting from improperly cleansed dishes and appliances, the first appliance you should check is your dishwasher. Is that dishwasher detergent with the extra rinse ingredients not leaving your dishes sparkling clean? Are you noticing a slight film when you know you’ve used a quality dishwashing product? If so, it could be that water isn’t draining as it should, and it is recycling dirty water through each new cycle. It’s time to be repaired so you may want to schedule a service call from Service Force and they will be able to provide you with guidance and potentially offer a free quote if it is needed. Sometimes it’s a simple matter of cleaning the drain and other times it could be something less obvious but easily repaired.

Do a Visual Inspection of Your Range

This one is a bit easier to complete. Light up every burner on the top of your stove. If you use a gas range, make sure flames are coming out of every hole in the burner and if you are using an electric stove, closely inspect each and every element. Do they light up all the way around when set to high? Next check a lower temperature setting. Are there any areas which don’t turn bright red? If so, it’s time to either get a new stove or replace any element/eye which isn’t giving you an even distribution of heat.

Water Pooling Is a Dead Giveaway

There are two common areas where water will pool if plumbing and/or appliances aren’t working as they should. First, check the floor around the sink and also under the sink to see if water is pooling. It may mean you need to reseal a fitting and it could be that drains are clogged or that you have a small hole in the pipe. The same holds true of the floor around the refrigerator. If you notice water pooling near the bottom, especially in the front, there is a problem somewhere.

It could be that your refrigerator isn’t cooling sufficiently, or it could be that there is a break in the water line leading to the ice maker. Perhaps the connection isn’t secured accurately. If you check the inside of your refrigerator and notice pooling water inside, you can be sure something is amiss. Perhaps the thermostat is shot or perhaps the gas circulating through those pipes in the back is escaping.

If You Can See It There’s a Problem

Visual clues are always going to be your best resource unless you call in an appliance repair service. The one thing to always keep in mind is that any appliance or plumbing not in good repair can be a major cause of illness. From mould to a growth of toxic bacteria, you must ensure that your appliances are in good working order and that your kitchen is kept sanitised and sparkling clean.
