About one third of our lives are spent sleeping. Quality sleep is important not only for the body, but also for our mental well-being. Despite this, many people underestimate the power of a good night’s sleep. According to the National Sleep Foundation, close to half of us have low sleep quality due to a poor quality, or unsuitable bed. However, choosing the right one one is not easy. Here's a look at what bed parameters to look for and how to choose the best one.

Regardless of style, there are many practical rules of thumb when it comes to choosing a bed. In addition to basic concerns like the size of the bed, it's important to take into account whether you want a version with storage space, an upholstered headboard or even an adjustable mattress.

Which size works for you?
It might seem obvious, but size is a key concern for a bed. Too small, and your body won’t have enough space to move, and you could wake up with back pain. We recommend double beds, even for single people! The ultimate size for couples is a Super King, but anything from queen sized and above is OK. Standard doubles tend to be too small for two people. Also think about the height of the bed. Ideally it should be about 50 cm above the ground, or more. This will not only look good, but it guarantees sufficient ventilation of the bottom of the mattress.

The best quality beds are made of solid wood
You can tell a good quality bed by its solid and stable frame. If you want a piece for your bedroom that will last for decades, go for furniture made from solid oak or beech wood. A sturdy frame, durable slats and quality mattresses ensure a healthy and restful sleep for years to come. We also love upholstered beds, for the maximum luxury feel!

Looking for an economical option?
If you're looking for a cheaper option, you can get some made from chipboard, or MDF. Although their lifespan is considerably shorter, their advantages include easy maintenance and a wide range of designs in which everyone can choose. Beds with metal frames are another option - solid iron ones might cost a pretty penny, though. Metal frames are ideal for allergy sufferers, as dust mites stay away from them.

All one piece
Try to choose all of your bed parts from one retailer - no hodge-podge jobs here! Also look at the quality of the joints. Each bed is made up of several separate parts - the frame, the slats or base, the mattress and the headboard. All these components must fit together perfectly to make it strong and stable.

So where to place your perfect bed? We think it looks best in the middle of the room, of course against the wall. As far as windows are concerned, it should ideally face east. The morning sun is the most natural and pleasant wake-up call.
