Fun Ways to Do Boring Household Chores

Most times, doing the chores is more of a compulsory activity than a fun pastime. That’s why the word ‘chore’ is synonymous to anything boring and maybe even slightly annoying to do. The fact that chores are so boring is why most people try to avoid doing them as often as they can. But then, sooner or later, you’ll have to get around to moping the floor, doing the dishes, and even vacuuming.

Your chores don’t have to be boring. You can add fun elements to your chores and make them a little more pleasurable to do. If you do it right, you may even start looking forward to the chores after a while.

Turn on some music.

This sounds like cliché advice, but it worked for Cinderella, and it can work for you, too. You can choose a genre of music that suits your taste and the kind of chore you’re doing. If you’re a big fan of music, you can easily lose yourself in tune, so much that you completely forget you’re even doing chores.

You can use headphones or speakers. It’s all up to you. However, if you’re in the house with someone else, you might want to stick to speakers so you can hear them when they call. However, headphones can feel more intimate. Have whatever you need to get you through your chores.

Take a break.

Did you know you can complete any task if given enough time? Taking breaks in between doing chores can help you to finish up. Sure, it might take you a little more time, but it beats not doing it at all!

Most people don’t like taking a break from doing chores until the whole task is complete because they don’t trust themselves to return to the task after the break is over. If this is you, then you may just want to power through the whole thing and make sure you complete it.

Reward yourself.

After you finish your chores, you can treat yourself to a glass of wine or a chocolate bar, depending on what you like. If you choose to reward yourself every time you complete your chores, you’ll be surprised at how motivated you’ll be to complete them the next time. The fact that your brain expects a reward can actually get you to do your chores with a smile on your face.

You just need to have enough discipline to not reward yourself until AFTER you finish your chores, or else, you’ll mess up the whole process and forget about your chores altogether. Besides instant gratification, you’ll also look forward to the next time you have chores, knowing there’s a reward waiting for you at the end.

Get machines to do your work.

While all these tips can help you get your work done with a smile on your face, you can just skip all that and get some floor-scrubbing machines. They can help you clean quickly, so you can actually get to some of the fun things you like to do. Sometimes, no life hack can take the place of not doing the thing at all.

You can pretty much automate most household chores these days, from robotic lawnmowers to autonomous vacuum cleaners. You can kick your feet up, and let the robots do all your chores for you!
