What Type of Pests Could be Lurking in Your Plumbing?

Mice and Rats

Since rats can swim for up to three days, it's pretty feasible for one to swim through the sewer pipes and up through your toilet. 

 

Insects 

Think about it, your plumbing system offers moisture and heat, the very things that roaches, drain flies, and a few other insects need to thrive. They can easily make their way into your plumbing system and emerge from your toilet when you least expect it. 

 

Frogs

While keeping frogs as pets is certainly not unheard of, you really don't want to find one living in your toilet, and it has been known to happen. Since frogs can easily live in the water and on land, your sewer system is the perfect place for them. They live in your plumbing happily, and when they are ready can easily make an appearance in your toilet when you open the lid. So, make sure you keep that lid closed when not in use to prevent them from getting into your home uninvited. 

 

Possums and Squirrels

Who would have ever thought that a possum or squirrel could gain access to your home through the plumbing and the toilet? If you find a possum, it is probably going to be a baby one, as adults won't usually fit. However, squirrels of almost any size can come through the toilet, so make sure you take the proper precautions for removing one if it happens to you. It's important to note at this point that animals such as possums, squirrels, rats, and mice will attack if cornered. They also carry diseases and germs that could make you sick, so calling in a professional animal removal company is your best course of action. 

 

Snakes

The most terrifying animal that could be found in your plumbing system and in your toilet is the snake. While many of these snakes are not poisonous, it can certainly give you a fright to find one slithering around in your toilet. If you see a snake in your toilet, close the lid and call animal removal right away. Also, look before using the toilet, just in case.
