Abruzzo Italy Offers Property Bargains

The Abruzzo region of Italy is a vast and unspoiled area to the east of Rome that offers some wonderful property for interested investors at amazing prices. The area offers great natural beauty with many small old towns and festivals. It is close to the beaches of the Adriatic Sea, not far from skiing and is accessible from Rome and is centrally located. This is a perfect place for property buyers and investors who want an old-world piece of Italy at a great price.

L’Aquila is the capital of the Abruzzo and is 115 kilometers from Rome. It is a medieval town in a pretty mountain setting, and has a well-preserved castle with a museum, a picturesque medieval quarter, and some good shops and restaurants. The region is dominated by several national parks, including the Abruzzo National Park centered on the town of Pascasseroli. Other parks include Gran Sasso National Park, which has the highest point on the Italian peninsula in it, and the Maeilla National Park.

The region is not a resort haven and most of the properties for sale are older places that will need some renovations and updates. According to one Italian property agent, prices for property in this area are 50% lower than similar properties in Tuscany. There are hundreds small houses and apartments on the market for less than €50,000, making it a bargain hunter’s paradise.

In addition to L’Aquila, some other towns in the region include Pescara, Chieti, Teramo and the small village of Castel di Sangro, which was briefly in the spotlight several years ago when its football team the focus of a book called The Miracle of Castel di Sangro. Pescara, located along the eastern coast of the Abruzzo, has a small international airport with regular flights to the UK, Germany and Spain, and Rome’s international airport is an easy drive.
