Embraer Leads Brazilian Aviation Industry to Banner Year in 2011
|
Brazilian Aircraft maker Embraer saw a 28% growth in sales of its E-jet
line alone, delivering 204 jets and leaving a backlog of 249 firm orders worth
more than US$15 Billion. Though Embraer is Brazil´s only manufacturer of this
scale it is notable in terms of economic development since the company depends
on a massive supply chain to support its manufacturing effort.
2011 also saw Embraer
literally fly into China with Jackie Chan. Embraer hired the enormously popular
Chan as its “ambassador” to the people´s republic. Chan will take delivery this
month of an Embraer corporate jet and will speak from personal experience
touting the product.
Embraer E-jet family of commercial jets already criss-cross the skies of china so Chan will focus on the company´s Legacy and Phenom corporate jets. Brazil joins the exclusive club of countries selling manufactured goods to China, known as an exporter of manufactured goods and as a buyer of raw materials only.
Embraer also joined
another, even more exclusive and sophisticated club in 2011 with the sale of 20
Super Tucano Light Air Support Aircraft(LAS) worth US $355 to the United States
Air Force. The Super Tucanos will be used for pilot training and support
missions, but are capable of combat roles including the delivery of precision
guided munitions, according to mission requirements. There are few if any other
countries currently selling combat aircraft to the United States military, the
land of Boeing, Lockheed, General Dynamics and others. Steven Glazer -
