Austrian and Slovak Border Towns Booming

Towns that are located on the border between Austria and Slovakia are experiencing their own little boom in property sales and growth. The EU recently expanded the Schenegen Zone, which allows passport free travel across the border and has helped to grow this region. Additionally, reasonably priced property in the region makes it an attractive area for those who want their own property within these countries.

The border area is approximately 50 kilometers from Vienna and 20 kilometers from the Slovakian capital of Bratislavia, making it very convenient for those who work in the major cities of either country. One town, Wolfsthal in Austria, has been clearing space for new homes and developments. Mayor Thomas Schoedinger notes that “We started to clear spaces for building because it was very important for the village that we should try to change the make-up of our aging population.”

Other towns in the region are doing the same thing, and there is plenty of reasonably priced property for both Austrians and Slovaks to take advantage of in the coming months and year.
