John Lewis is to establish its first ever presence in Europe having identified seven outlets in the Netherlands.

Britain’s biggest department store chain will today announce it has teamed up with the country’s leading department store, de Bijenkorf, to open three shop-in-shops by April next year, with the remainder opening by 2017.

Andy Street, managing director of John Lewis, told the Mail: ‘Our existing shop-in-shops in Singapore, the Philippines and South Korea have been well received and are trading well.

‘Whilst we remain committed to our UK physical expansion we hope to announce more international collaborations in 2016.’

The John Lewis departments will be between 300-500 square feet in size. Its own store design team will create the look and feel of the shops, which will feature a selection of John Lewis’s own brand products.

These will range from home and lifestyle products from the bed, bath, living and gift departments.

The first Dutch shops will open in spring 2016 at de Bijenkorf’s flagship stores in Amsterdam, Rotterdam and The Hague.

John Lewis opened 14 shop-in-shops across Singapore and the Philippines this year, and seven shop-in-shops in South Korea last year.
