The province of Balikesir is a fascinating place in Turkey, near the metropolitan area of Istanbul and yet also with plenty of beachfront and water property along both the Aegean and Marmara coasts. It is a great place for those international property investors who want to be nearer to the largest city in the country and yet still have all the advantages of being bear the water. The closest properties within Balikersir province to Istanbul are those along the Sea of Marmara. The resort town of Erdek is a popular place for weekend visitors from Istanbul and those who want more of an international flair in their overseas property. From here you can catch ferry boats to nearby islands and enjoy the summer weather. Just to the east of Erdek is the town of Bandirma, where you can catch a high speed catamaran to Istanbul. Balikesir is an ideal place from which to see historic sites, including the location of ancient Troy and more modern ones such as Gallipoli, an easy ferry ride across the Dardanelles from Canakkale. The distance from Istanbul to the town of Balikesir is approximately 170 kilometers, or 110 miles. From Istanbul to Bandirma is 110 kilometers or 70 miles.
