Costa Brava a More Relaxed Spain

Costa Brava Offers a More Relaxed Spain

Spain is the most popular second home location for Brits, and the Costa Brava offers a nice alternative from the typical fare of the southern part of the country. Spain’s northern coast along the Mediterranean Sea is a beautiful and still unspoiled part of the country that beckons travelers and property investors who want the Mediterranean, but not the crowds and commercialism of the Costa del Sol. While southern Spain has many great things to offer, particularly for those who love golf and warm weather year round, the northern coast has its own beauty and charm.

This stretch of seaside from the French border to just above Barcelona is a mostly Catalan-speaking part of the country, but it brings people from all over Europe so you can always here a mix of languages spoken here. Not far from the border with France is the small town of Llançà, where the beautiful beach of Platja Grifeu is located. This small town is situated on the coast just north of a peninsula of land called Cap Creus and has a sheltered beach with clear, warm water for swimming and fishing.

Out on the end of the Cap Creus is the spectacular little town of Cadaques, where you will see white washed houses overlooking the sea and artists painting the views. The former home of Salvador Dali, this town is a bit of an artist’s haven. The small beaches around the town are often much less crowded than others and it is a wonderful place to settle down.

Another village that has great scenery and a wonderful atmosphere is Begur, located about halfway along the Costa Brava, just under a two hour drive north of Barcelona’s bustling airport. This town is built on a hill overlooking the sea, with numerous beaches all around it. It has many small lanes with great restaurants and bars, and is an idyllic town for a holiday home or retirement villa.

These are just a few of the many towns that make of the Costa Brava. Relax and enjoy the scenery, small villages and charm of northern Spain with a home or holiday on the Costa Brava.
