City Guide to Athens Greece

Athens attracts thousands of tourists per year to see its many historical and antique Grecian ruins. The area is also popular for its beaches and excellent cuisine. Since the Olympics in 2004, more and more investors are looking to residential and commercial real estate opportunities as well.

Athens has definitely been feeling in the “Olympic Effect.” The Olympic Effect is the rise in property prices and influx in new inhabitants after hosting the Olympics. This has overseas investors targeting several commercial ventures in the major cities and towns in Greece. Despite the Olympic Effect, Greece has remained to have affordable property prices that are very rewarding to those who buy.

Athens itself is cosmopolitan metropolis. The population is approximately 3.7 million people. Athens is the center of life in Greece by being the economic, financial, cultural, political and industrial center of the country. The most famous monuments in the area include the Parthenon on the Acropolis as well as several other temples and ancient works of art. The city has also put large sums of money into developing and improving the transportation system in Athens as well as building a large number of four and five start hotels for the comfort of the tourists that keep the city booming. A large amount of the improvement was called for so that the city could efficiently handle the number of visitors for the Olympics.

Athens features a varied terrain that attracts a large number of outdoor enthusiasts.  From the high rising mountains and hills to the thousands of miles of trails, there are a lot of outdoor activities to take part in. The area is excellent for biking, hiking, horseback riding, skiing, rock climbing, hang gliding, and windsurfing. There are several outdoor clubs and sports and a large number of sports venues were created for the Olympics.
