The Palm
The islands are built in the shape of date palm trees linked to the mainland by bridges that connect the trunk of each tree to the shore. The two smaller palm islands each have 17 fronds and a surrounding crescent barrier island. All of the islands will have everything a resident or visitor could want, with shopping to entertainment.

With more than 800 employees, Nakheel currently has 17 major projects worth more than US$30 billion under development. Nakheel’s developments will add more than 1,500 km of beachfront to the Dubai coastline, and will spread across more than 30,000 hectares of the city. Video of The Palm http://www.nakheel.com/video_tour.html The Palm Jumeirah The first of the Dubai Palm Islands to be conceived and constructed, The Palm Jumeirah is also the smallest at 5 km in diameter. This island contains hotels, villas and apartments as well as retail shops and a marina. Each frond will make up a distinct, private neighborhood. The outer crescent will form a breakwater and have a number of luxury hotels and restaurants along its 11 km length in addition to residences. The trunk of this island is 2 km long and contains luxury hotels and residential apartments surrounding a 7.8 hectare park. The whole island will be connected by a monorail to whisk residents and visitors to their intended destinations on and off the island.
There are 4,000 residences under construction for The Palm Jumeirah on all three parts of the island, with another 4,000 to come over the next few years. The first residential units to come available are the Shoreline Apartments on the trunk of the island and Signature Villas along the fronds. The first residents moved into their new homes in late 2006 and the rest should be able to do so by the end of 2007. In addition to villas and apartments, there are garden homes and town homes available, ranging in size from studios to 4 bedrooms. With all of the options available, there is a home for anyone’s tastes on this one-of-kind development.
There will 32 hotels on the whole island, with 25 of these on the crescent. The Atlantis, a 1,600 room luxury hotel complex, will sit on the outermost tip of the island. This hotel project is under construction and scheduled to open in late 2008. The Palm Trump Hotel and Tower will sit on the trunk and be part of the main retail and entertainment area of the island. Other major hotel brands on the island will be Moevenpick, Radisson, Hilton, Shangri La, Marriott and many more. In addition to these hotels will be retail stores, a marina, marine environments for scuba and snorkeling, cinemas and health clubs.
The Palm Jebel Ali The second of Dubai’s Palm Islands will be 50% larger than the Palm Jumeirah and focused more on entertainment for visitors and residents of all ages. This island will be in the same shape as the first Palm Island with 17 fronds, but will have an added inner ring of water homes sitting on stilts. These unique homes built on stakes will have their own boat landings and will spell out a verse written in Arabic that can be seen from the air.
One of the first residences on this island is the Palm Springs, slated to open in late 2007 or early 2008. This high rise residential tower will have 1, 2 and 3 bedroom apartments and have its own private beach and water park. The island will contain apartments, villas and townhomes in addition to its recreation facilities. These will include an aquarium, numerous water parks, dive facilities, marinas and a Sea Village, with hotels and attractions on the tip of the island.
The Palm Deira The largest of The Palm Islands, this is still in the early construction stages. Slated to be 18 km long and 9 km wide, there will be residences, schools, hospitals, retail and entertainment facilities. While it will be several years before any residences are available, they are currently being sold by the developer and you can reserve an apartment or villa today.
Called the one of the modern wonders of the world, this unique freehold development is a chance for waterfront living at its best. Location: Project Type: Summary of The Palm and its features:
