 Salvador Brazil

The Brazilian city of Salvador, home to some 2.7 million people located on the northeast coast, is the capital of Bahia State. The official name of the city is São Salvador da Baía de Todos os Santos, or literally translated, Holy Savior of All Saints' Bay, and is often called Salvador da Bahia. The city itself sits on a peninsula between the bay and the Atlantic Ocean.

The climate in Salvador is tropical, with the highest temperatures in March around 30 degrees and the lowest in July with daily highs around 26 degrees. The location is humid, but it is moderated by the ocean location and the fact that there are not many extremes. It is a popular place for Brazilian and international tourists, and its location along the coast is making it very attractive for international investors looking for great ocean front property.

Salvador is considered the cultural capital of Brazil. It was founded in 1549 by settlers and was formerly the Brazilian capital when it was a Portuguese colony. Salvador has its own Carnival every summer, and of the nearly 5 million visitors to Bahia almost half of them came to Salvador, according to the Bahia Investment Authority (http://www.bahiainvest.com.br). Pelourinho is the oldest part of the city and a wonderful place to visit and shop.

Because of its popularity and size, Salvador has many properties that are currently for sale and available to buy right now. Vitoria is a highly sought after address, as this street is one of the nicest places in the city to own a condominium or apartment. It is near the bay and the marina, and is convenient to most of the city. The brand new apartment building, Margarida Costa Pinto, is located here with plenty of residences available.  Barra and Ondina are two areas of the city at the end of the peninsula that are very popular for both tourists and residents. If you are looking for excellent rental properties, either one of these neighbourhoods are good choices.

Itapua is situated on the northernmost part of the city along the Atlantic Ocean. This is a beach community that has access to the ocean, the city and the airport. There are villas and apartments that are available here that you can purchase and move into right now. Wherever you look in the city, there are great properties available.

The bay has over 50 islands, some of which are being developed as resorts and residential communities. Itaparica is a well known island that has two villages and dozens of beaches. Another island, Cajaiba, is currently under development by a group of European investors. There will be a resort community with hotels and residences when completed.

The Linha Verde, or Green Line, is a highway that goes north along the coast from Salvador to Mangue Seco on the border with Sergipe state. It is kept in excellent condition and you can get to wherever you need on the coast by taking this road. Just north of Salvador, near the airport and at the start of the Green Line, are the communities of Lauro de Freitas and Vilas do Atlantico. This area is very popular for Europeans to purchase property and is still close to the city. If you are looking for off plan properties, the beaches to the north of the city are the best bet as there are many communities under development.

Salvador’s international airport, officially named Deputado Luís Eduardo Magalhães International Airport (SSA), is located 20 km north of the city center. It has daily flights to all major Brazilian cities and a number of European ones as well. Getting to this city is easy, and the property that is available is amazing.
