Placencia Belize

Belize has become one of the more popular countries in Central America for international real estate investors in recent years. The small country south of Mexico has 270 miles of Caribbean coastline and some of the most pristine land anywhere. Along the southern coastline is the 16-mile long Placencia Peninsula, the Jewel of Belize.

Placencia has some of the best beaches in Central America, a laid-back lifestyle, excellent fishing and fascinating diving. This idyllic spit of land has the Caribbean on one side and a crystal clear lagoon on the other. There are three small communities located on the peninsula and several new developments under way. At the north end, where the peninsula breaks off from the mainland is the town or Riverside. The towns of Maya Beach and Seine Bight are about halfway down, and on the southern end is the town of Placencia.

Most of the new developments and property for sale are at the southern end of the peninsula. Los Portico is a new development on the lagoon side of Placencia with plans for a total of 42 apartments and villas, a marina, restaurant and spa. Bella Maya Resort is another new resort that has condominiums overlooking both the lagoon and Caribbean. The Palmetto Bay Resort is a group-oriented resort for corporate retreats, weddings and group functions.

In addition to the new developments under way and recently constructed, there is a variety of existing housing available for those who want to buy or rent. This area has become quite popular, and many long-time residents have made their houses available for renters during part of the year.

Belize is a small, tropical country facing the western Caribbean, and borders Guatamala, Honduras and Mexico. The major airport is in Belize City, about 125 miles north of Placencia. It takes about 3-4 hours by car, depending on the conditions. The Placencia Airport is a small strip halfway down the peninsula and has regular flights to and from Belize City, making it reasonably easy to get here.
