Nassau is the capital city of the Commonwealth of the Bahamas. The city is home to nearly seventy percent of the population of the Bahamas. The city has become a large vacation and travel destination as it is very close in proximity to both Florida and Cuba.
The Atlantis Resort attracts a large number of tourists and employees six thousand Bahamians. Atlantis is located on Paradise Island dominates the island’s property and real estate. The island has been passed through numerous owners including Huntington Hartford who renamed the island from Hog Island to Paradise Island. He sold most of his property in the Bahamas over the years to Jim Crosby who sold the island to Donald Trump in the 1980s, who sold to Merv Griffin, who sold to the current owner, Sol Kerzner. The island has undergone massive property development projects by the island is relatively small and further development is limited.
Popular oversees property investments have been made in developing resorts in the area to help build space for the influx of tourists seen each year. There are several other resorts that have been opened including Breezes Super Club and Sandals Resort. The primary economic producer in the Bahamas is overseas banking and financial services. There has also been a boom in residential property building. Overseas property has become popular for those residents of Florida, as the Bahamas is not far from the state and there are flights in and out of the islands on a daily basis. Investments in luxury homes have increased dramatically and many people are becoming interested in timeshare property investment as well.
The culture in the Bahamas is a hybrid of African and European. The weather and climate of the Bahamas is very popular with tourists and the resorts are exciting with their various activities and gambling. The islands enjoy a variety of different types of indigenous music such as junkanoo, rake and scrape and calypso. Regattas are popular social events and there are numerous festivals. The “Pineapple Fest” and the “Crab Fest” are amongst the most popular.
