Bodrum is located at the soutwest tip of Turkey and, with the peninsula, covers an area of 649 km2. The population of peninsula according to the 2000 census is 106,168, with 35,180 in Bodrum town.
Bodrum, the center of an administrative district called ilçe, has a permanent population of some 25,000 and stands on the site of the ancient city of Halicarnassus, once the capital of the kingdom of Caria. Bodrum is a major tourist attraction due to its excellent climate, beautiful coastline and a plethora of proximate sites of historical importance and natural beauty.

Bodrum Castle
Bodrum Castle was built by the Knights of Rhodes in honour of St.Peter between 1415-1437. The stones and marbles of the Mausoleum, which is one of the seven wonders of ancient world and destroyed by an earthquake in 14th century, were used for the construction of the castle.
