Moving abroad-living abroad, real life stories

Buying overseas property and moving abroad is quite a brave step. It is great to read real life stories from real people who have taken the plunge. Submit an article here and you may help others make that big move in buying overseas property and living abroad.

Our experience moving and living in France

Chris Hodgson and Allie Robinson

Chris and Allie moved to a 200 year old farm chalet, high in the village of Morzine in the heart of skiing country in May 2004. Fully converted and renovated by the previous owners, they got a great deal for such a character home. It cost 650,000 Euros and it sleeps 10-12. The happy couple recently headed home to the UK in October to get married and then came straight back to Morzine to continue their new life in France! See their ski chalet at the Morzine 365 website.

Quotes from Chris and Allie

“We’d done an awful lot of research beforehand - lots of telephoning, getting in touch with all the relocation companies in the UK and reading all the ‘Living in France’ magazines.”

“We were quite lucky with the buying process because we contacted a financial advisory company who were 50% based in France and 50 % in the UK - so they were able to offer us quite a lot of advice.”

“We’ve never had a survey done, and the French way is that you don’t have property surveys done at all. I think if we had our time again, we would have a survey done. I think we’d probably recommend it.”
