British Virgin Islands economy

The islands' burgeoning offshore banking industry gives the British Virgin Islands one of the most stable economies in the Caribbean. However, in recent years the banking industry has become the target of unwanted attention. An Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) report listed the islands as being one of 35 countries with harmful tax practices, and since then the government has pledged to clean up the industry to prevent money laundering.
